English translation by Ralph Griffith (in verses) of complete Ramayana of Valmiki. The Rāmāyaṇa is an ancient Sanskrit epic thought to have been compiled between approximately 400 BCE and 200 CE, attributed to the Hindu sage (maharishi) Valmiki. The Rāmāyaṇa consists of 24,000 verses in seven books, and 500 cantos and tells the story of Lord Rāma. Thematically, the epic explores themes of human existence and the concept of dharma.
